Pet Cremation

Cremation is the practical choice for those who wish to have their pet nearby.

The death of a pet is tragic. Most pet owners are left unprepared when the time comes that their beloved cat or dog dies. There’s no greater sorrow for a pet owner when his loyal and loving companion crosses the rainbow bridge towards pet heaven.

Because most of us treat our pets as if they were human, when they died, owners tend to choose to bury or cremate their pets. Burying a deceased pet in the backyard might not be an option for some because of complications with regards to health laws. Pet cemeteries might not be an option because of the fees and dues to be paid.

The logical chose for most pet owners is to have their pets cremated. Once the pet is cremated, his ashes could be scattered in the backyard or could be stored in a pet urn. People also tend to have their pets cremated so that they can bring the container of their pet’s ashes when they move and to serve as a pet memorial for them. Cremation is available for all types of pets, be it a small bird or a large horse.

There are different pet cremations to choose from. You can discuss this with your veterinarian or crematory. Each choice has its own pros and cons. Well here are some of the choices so that you can discern which one is the right one for your pet.

A private cremation is when the remains of your pet are placed in the chamber alone. Then once the process is complete, the ashes would be placed in the pet urn of your choice. Then there’s the viewing cremation where the family and friends of the pet owner can view the process through a viewing room. This option is not available in some crematories.

The pet owner can also choose between individual and communal cremation. In an individual cremation, your pet’s remain will share space with another pet in the cremation chamber. Once the process is done, the container with the pet’s ashes will be returned to the owner. In the communal or mass cremation, your pet will be cremated along with other pets and the ashes would not be returned to the individual owners. The crematory will be in charge of disposing the ashes.

Pet Cremation Urn

Once the cremation process is done, the ashes would be placed in a plastic bag and then given to the pet owner inside a temporary pet urn, which is usually in the form of a tin, cardboard or plastic box. The ashes are placed inside the plastic bag to prevent moisture from destroying it and to avoid accidental spillage. Once a permanent animal urn is chosen, it is preferable the ashes are transferred with the plastic bag.

Pet owners can choose from a wide range of pet memorial urns. No matter what the pet was, there are lifesize pet urn, dog urns, cat urns, urns for ferrets, rabbit pet urns and a lot more. A popular choice for pet owners is the wooden box with a nameplate to display its name and a pet photo frame as well. No matter what the choice might be, be sure to pick something that would represent the fond memories both you and your pet have shared throughout the years.
