Pet Bereavement

pet bereavement can be a peaceful and healing process

Pets bring joy and laughter to the homes of their owners. They’re the ultimate stress reliever. But what if one day your personal stress reliever is gone? The situation could turn ones house hold upside down. It’s like they lose a member of their family. Pet bereavement is little more difficult because some people don’t understand the pain your family is going through even weeks after the pet cremation.

Pet bereavement is a long and painful process. Pet owners would first feel extreme sadness and loneliness because of the lost of a very faithful and loving friend and companion. There’s a giant hole in the daily lives of everyone living in the house of a recently deceased pet. Everyone is still accustomed of the pet being there and yet he’s not there to welcome them home.

Other people would say that time heals all wounds but they are wrong. Even when the container of the pet’s ashes is brought home and placed on the mantle, the pain is still there. It would take a while for the owners to feel better. Probably the best way to cope with pet bereavement is by keeping the members of the family busy. The kids should try their best to focus on their school works while the adults on their work. Pick up a hobby where the y family can share quality time bonding with each other.

Other way is to remember all the good times the family spent with the pet. Talk about how great the pet was. Kids could make a scrapbook as a tribute to how wonderful the pet is. That way everyone would not dwell on the sadness but focus more on happy thoughts. Some people would designate a special place in their house that could show photos and other favorite things of the pet.

Pet memorials are good ways of handling the loss of a special friend. Pet urns can be displayed at a special place. These should be viewed not as a sad relic of the lost but as a reminder that your pet is happy over the Rainbow Bridge. He’s there until someday both of you would be reunited and be together again in heaven.

If your family is really having a hard time coping with the lost, animal humane societies would usually offer pet loss support groups. These groups meet weekly or monthly and would try to support each other and help others handle the loss. They can guide the family members through the pet bereavement and could give tips on how to move on.

Pet loss is a traumatic thing to go through but pet bereavement would be easy if you’re not going through it alone. Family, friends and even support groups are there to help you get pass the grieving stage. Remember that you are not alone. Friends would send pet sympathy ecards to express their condolences. Hopefully someday you’ll get over your pet bereavement and when that day comes, you’re pet would surely be smiling at you from the Rainbow Bridge.
